So I wanted to share this with you guys as i think this is an aspect of monster hunter that is often missed by new and even some veteran players of World. Rare Pets!

You may or may not be aware that you can actually display all the endemic life creatures you catch anywhere in the new world. To do so, simply speak to your housekeeper felyne and select “Place Pets”.

As you progress in the story you’ll have the option to upgrade your room to something much more deserving of the Sapphire Star. Once you’ve defeated Zorah Magdaros you are able to upgrade to the best room. This in turn means you are able to place the most pets!

So how does one actually go about catching rare pets? Well, each region has their own selection of Rare Endemic Life. Some require you use your Fishing Rod in certain places at certain times of day, otherwise, you’ll be needing your trusty Capture Net. Scroll over to it in your item bar and equip it to your Slinger. You fire it the same way you would any other Slinger ammo.

I can also VERY HIGHLY recommend that you use the Ghillie Mantle as it will mean Endemic Life will not spook even if you get close. However, with some of the more jumpy creatures you’ll still only have one shot with the capture net before it escapes. So don’t shoot blindly!

Now, a bit of a disclaimer, just because you’ve gone to the correct region at the right time of day does NOT guarantee the Creature will appear. It’s very much a game of chance to even see, let alone catch some of the very rare ones. However, that means you have all the more bragging right when you catch them! Aha!

Without further ado, I’m going to list all the Rarest Pets I’ve found in each region.

Ancient Forest:

  • King Marlin

I found this guy swimming around the beach area next to the kestodon in zone 4.

  • Downy Crake (Phantom Bird)

I found these little puffballs of cuteness riding the back of an Aptonoth in zone 1. I’ve also seen them on the backs of Apceros in the Wildspire Waste.

  • Forest Pteryx

This one you can find in all the same places you find normal Woodland Pteryx but this one has a brighter colour palette.

  • Giant Vigorwasp

Underneath where Anjanath goes to sleep you can find this one-of-a-kind oversized Vigorwasp.

  • Augurfly

These flies are noticably darker than normal omenflies.

  • Phantom Flutterfly

These elusive butterflies can be found on the north side of the map in zone 8.

Wildspire Waste:

  • Emerald Helmcrab

I found this guy on the way to fight Jyuratodus in the muddy parts of the wildspire.

  • Gold Hercudrome

In the same area, use the wedge beetles to swing to a ledge just before Jyuratodus’ area and you should find him on a tree.

  • Pilot Hare

I’ve seen these spawn almost right in front of the camp on zone 1 or at the south entrance to zone 3.

Coral Highlands:

  • Wiggler Queen

Find her amongst her fellow wigglers at night in zone 1.

  • Dapper Coralbird

Anywhere you see coralbirds, count them. If there are more than 3 in a cluster, chances are the 4th is a Dapper one.

  • Prism Hercudrome

I found mine way back in zone 11, in the same area with the 3 mining nodes.

Rotten Vale:

  • Bristly Crake

One of the rarest pets to spawn at all. He’s riding the back of a Mosswine in the same area as the native Grimalkynes. Be sure to use ghillie mantle or he’ll bolt!

  • Petricanth (The Ancient)

In the same area again, over to the left from the entrance, there will be a pool with goldenfish and if you’re super lucky, the Hyper rare Petricanth.

  • Gastronome Tuna

I found this big boy in a pool about halfway down the vale. He drops an item if you catch him!

  • Great Goldenfish

Same places as normal Goldenfish but much bigger and shinier!

Elder’s Recess:

  • Moonlight Gecko

I found this guy on the wall to the left of the exit to camp in zone 8.

  • Great Platinumfish

Behind you in zone 1 camp. Extremely Rare!
